APOLOGIES EVERYONE....
Sorry to everyone who still looks in @ davysrockpage, that the site hasn't been regularly updated the past few weeks.
The reason being, I've had to work away from home and haven't been able to get to a computer to keep the news and gig guide up to speed.
I'm hoping to sort something out for my next trip away, so please do keep sending your news, view and listings and I'll do my best to help advertise and promote the best area of the UK for live music..!!!

Charity Gig at Cluny 2 MUSIC FOR NETA

Generous local musicians are giving up their time to play at an event to help raise funds for a local charity.
It will take place on Sunday 15th November at the Cluny 2 in Lime Street. The event runs from 1 pm – 11 pm. Tickets are £7 for the whole day.

The Cluny 2 has disabled access.

The charity is NETA (North East Trust for Aphasia)
http://www.facebook.com/l/44142;www.neta.org.uk .

It runs a support centre for people with communication difficulties, usually following a stroke. A person who has a stroke may suddenly be unable to do the things that they had taken for granted. For example speak to their friends on the phone, read a newspaper, write a shopping list. Aphasia can have profound effects on the person and their families and friends. It might be impossible to work again, and their personal relationships, social life and confidence will all be affected – which can lead to isolation.

Among the many talented musicians are Pete Dodds, Paul Jackson, Paul Liddell, Magnetic Cherry, Ashlea Pearson, Terry Gorman, Steve Daggett, Fiddles n Frets, Red Box, Bill Stewart, Jim Jon, Mooni, Bam and Anna, Dan Bond, Blue Grass Plus, Adam George, Neil Dorney, Tom Fielding, Clear Blue Skies, Pipe Dream, Jay Smith.

There will be raffles and an auction of oil portraits of top stars e.g. Bob Dylan, Bob Marley etc.

If you cannot attend but would like to make a donation, you can do so at www.justgiving/neta.You can also help by doing your shopping on the internet through http://www.facebook.com/l/44142;www.buy.at/NETA

The Reet Hot Chili Peppers are looking for a new Frusciante !!
"Unfortunately The Reet Hot Chili Peppers are losing Jonny, our guitarist, at the turn of the year as he looks to start his own covers band. Being the star that he is Jon has agreed to stay on til the turn of the year so that we can find a replacement
We are looking for someone to step into a up and running Red hot Chili Peppers tribute with plenty of choice gigs in the diary both local and further a field. So if you can play the guitar like Frusciante, sing the harmonies that Frusicante does, are up for a laugh, don't mind doing 1-2 gigs per month out of the area - then get in touch for a knock through and we can take it from there. THE BAIRNS ARE GROWING UP...
Rock band SKINFLINT have been together now for 10 years, they'll be celebrating by playing a birthday bash gig up at Nikh's Bar, Blyth on Saturday 17th October.
Having first caught the lads live at a 'band showcase' event back in 2003, playing their excellent self-penned tunes, they've come on leaps and bounds, playing packed out gigs around the region including, probably the biggest north event...Stormin' the Castle.
A smashing set of lads, who invite everyone along to the celebration and what  will be another memorable gig with support from Under The Gun next weekend.

HELP FOR HEROES
"GuvNor are to release "Remembrance Day" as a single in November on Weedspell Records. Available from iTunes, Amazon and other retail outlets. After spending the summer in the studio recording tracks for the next GuvNor album, the guys have decided to release the track as a standalone single. All proceeds from downloads are being donated to the “Help For Heroes” charity, who have given it their seal of approval. It’s probably the song that the band are most proud of. It was inspired by the war poets of the First World War, and is a song of support for those who have served and are serving. The final verse has been re written to bring the support we wish to show to those who are serving today. The band will perform the song for the first time on Sunday October 11th at the Town Hall Hotel in Richmond, North Yorkshire".

DRUMMER REQUIRED…

and playing a versatile mix of cover versions (from Hendrix to Metallica) and original material. Our current drummer is leaving the area and, with regret, the band. So, we urgently need a dedicated, versatile replacement to join us in rehearsal for gigs and planned recordings. We are aged 17 to 21 and can offer a regular rehearsal venue, gigs and recording opportunities to someone who can handle the drumming duties and work with us to take Civil Sins forward”.

Mick of Wardley Rock Nite asks…
“Could let everyone know I am looking for a classic rock band to play my 50th Birthday Bash on the 14th November 09,  I already have a support band lined up. Anyone interested gis a bell, they'll also get 2 gig next year at the Rock Nite”.

Cheers Maddog (nearly an Ol'd Git ) email

“Well what can you say, four great acts a  room full of people having a great time and around £2.5k raised for charity.

The night was started in great style by New Found Paradise (so much talent in ones so young) and carried on in the same vain by White Afro).

Then came Russ Tippins and what can you say - a terrific set which was hugely enjoyed by all there. This set things up nicely for a debut from Thyn Lizzy who rounded the night off in sensational style belting out all the Lizzy favourites as if they'd played them for years.

Many tanks to everyone who made the night a great success”.

MINI MAYFAIR BACK...
"Hi Folks, First of all, thank you to all those who emailed me back with Words of encouragement, I was on the brink of giving up…

And I'm so glad that you did because; DIANE:  THE  GODDESS  OF  ROCK HAS  DONE  IT  AGAIN.

We have a venue; it's not in the town, but it's a short bus ride to the quayside.

anyone remember the 'frog and furkin' just around the corner from the law courts?

Well it's now called Stereo and it's our new home! I'm finalising dates coz it will be just when

there is a free Saturday a.t.m. but come the new year we can have the Last Saturday of Every Month.

The venue itself is perfect; it holds 500 in all, so plenty room for expansion, it has a decent dance floor and a quiet area, and as for all you smokers who had to live with the fear of the lift, well, you get your very own smoker's balcony!!!

Not only that, we will have a 2am finish coz it's a night club.

I have copy and pasted a link to google map below

so you can see where it is and I'm checking the busses out (the yellow electric busses go from opposite the Percy to the law courts)

So it's all starting to happen.

Watch this space for the first date".

All My Love,

Diane X

New Drummer for Requiem
Local heavy rockers REQUIEM are pleased to announce that they have a new drummer. Says lead singer Glenn " We are more than happy to welcome Gary Hemsley to the band. Gary has spent time with This Machine and Small Weller, so has the experience as well as ability. Gary is a great drummer and fits in perfectly with our sound and identity". Gary should be making his debut with the band on the 25/07/09 at The Angel pub in Durham. Glenn adds " we would also like to say a big thank you to drummer Kevin Bick who is standing in for all REQUIEM gigs prior to the 25/07/09". SHEIKS READY TO ROCK N ROLL
After a 6 month break THE SHEIKS (formerly The Mississippi Sheiks) are back with two new members, Singer Paul Kirsopp (ex Colonel Blink) and Bass player Clint Irving (ex The Underdogs) join original members Guitarist Steve Henderson and Drummer Dave Stott to complete the new 4 man line up playing material by Rory Gallagher, Nazareth, Tom Petty etc. Previously having carved out a niche for playing material not covered by other bands on the pub circuit and having had some  great reviews, the new line up intend to capitalize on this with new material being added to some of the original favourites. The band play their first gig with the new line up at The Times Inn on Sunday 21st June then they are at The George Stephenson, Killingworth on Sat 4th July, check out the updated website for more details etc. www.freewebs.com/msheiks

MINI MAYFAIR SET TO CLOSE...
Well folks, I don't know if you  heard through the vine but the rumour is true - we were informed on Saturday night that the Northern Constitutional Club is going under due to the recession!!!
July will be the last ever rock night at this venue. I am desperately looking for a new venue but no luck so far.
Watch this space, when I know you will too! Diane. X

New Shields Venue...
Chinos Bar/Cafe in North Shields has started hosting live music on Saturdays. As the venue is right between the Magnesia Bank and the Garricks Head, it will face strong competition to draw in the crowds. But as the acts featured here will mostly be solos, duos etc Chinos hopes to offer a genuine alternative to the loud rock bands and crazy crowds typical of Saturdays at bigger venues.

Brand new duo The Rivals will be playing at Chinos on Saturday 20th June bringing you a mixture of classic covers spanning five decades and a range of styles including Country, Blues, Rock n Roll, Irish and more. Despite only being a duo, the Rivals have over 40 years gigging experience between them and may even have a special guest lined up for the night, so come along and enjoy a quieter, more audience-friendly Saturday night and support live music in all its forms.

Another one bites the dust...
SHAMROX Bar in Durham has stopped all live music as from now!

Andy Hislop once of FM is doing the North East a big favour and moving to Ireland !! He will be joined by friends at the Barking Dog Wallsend on Saturday 6/6/09 to say farewell. There will be a special guest appearance by the increasingly popular Beth Hopper and Andy will perform some old favourites. A small charge of £2 will be made to cover expenses and tickets will be on sale from Saturday.
ALL are welcome

MAIDEN BACK
Great news for you Iron Maiden fans out there...MAIDEN ENGLAND are back in rehearsals, and even better news is that Paul 'Hewie' Hewitson will be back fronting the top tribute band.
After Paul (certainly a hard act to replace), had originally given in his notice to the band late last year, and with drummer Graham also leaving for personal reasons, it looked very unlikely the band would continue. But with Paul's circumstances having changed, and with Mick Kerrigan (of The Force) willing to help out on drums while the band continue to find a permanent replacement, you'll be able to see one of the regions most entertaining bands, back in action at The Office, South Shields on Sunday 3rd May.
The lads are also booked for Monroes, Workington (2nd May) and Trillians on Thursday 11th June.

The line up will therefore be:- Zeb Walton (bass), Gary Johnston & Mark Craig (guitars),

Paul Hewitson (vocals), and Mick Kerrigan (drums).

Just the tonic...

Feeling a bit down with the Winter Blues?
Female fronted rockers REMEDY may just be the answer, with the bands latest CD now available by download. The 6 track album rocks along capturing the bands high energy and feeling of being at a Remedy gig.
The four-piece band also go out locally as The ALCATRAZ HOUSE BAND, playing covers by the likes of Led Zeppelin, with vocalist Jen not only looking good at the front, but sounding spot on with anything the extremely tight band play behind her.

Get out and seen them for yourselves...
...Jen and the lads will certainly warm you up!

"There's a great little pub over in Whitehaven where we played last Saturday.
The Three Tuns is a small pub, but has a little stage area and they have in-house lights. ie they have made an effort to help the bands along. As I say the stage is small, we just about got everything on there, but being a small venue you get to play to a very enthusiastic crowd. If you fancy it call Shaun on 07832 134334 or look for "Three Tuns Whitehaven" on MySpace.
BTW It's 3 1/2 hours drive to Whitehaven, but Shaun put us up for the night as well".

New Heaton venue wants bands...
ECHO Bar on Chillingham Road, Heaton, Newcastle is looking to start a weekly Saturday live music night.
Although Led Zep tribute Zep 3 played upstairs at the venue a few months back with mixed reviews, that was under a different management, and new man in charge Tim is keen to get the Heaton area buzzing with Rock & Indie bands.

Buskers host required!
Claire and Den have been running the popular buskers night at the Magnesia Bank (North Shields) since June of 2007 but Claire's last year at University and recent changes in Den's job have combined to leave them unable to continue doing so. The management are particularly keen to continue hosting a buskers/open mike night on Mondays and are hoping to find someone to take over from Claire and Den as soon as possible.
The buskers night will definitely be up and running until the end of the month, and if all goes to plan, Claire and Den's last night in charge will be Monday 26th January. So come along and continue to support this popular showcase of local talent, and if you have experience of running something similar, or have ever thought about doing so, have a word with the boss (who is there every week) and you never know...it could be you up there running the show in four weeks.

New Darlo Venue
Hendrix tribute band Sundance are pleased to help with the relaunch of one of Darlington's oldest live rock music venues. TJ's in Skinnergate (formerly called "The Bowes") was a regular gig for local bands during the 1970's with one or two star appearances - Tony McPhee and the Groundhogs spring to mind, also Rod Moir (Vic Reeves) was a regular visitor in his youth. TJ's already hosts an open mic night on the 3rd Tuesday every month and is now looking to put live bands on a Sunday night. With a fantastic new lineup featuring Bass player Paul Bennett, and Tumblin' Dice drummer Martin Bennett, Sundance will kick this off with their tribute to the Music and Legacy of Jimi Hendrix on Sunday 21st December at 9pm - £3 on the door. If you would like to see more live music in Darlington then you should come along and support this gig!

DIABLO fav re-worked
"One of the most popular DIABLO songs on stage is "Runaway" from the second
album, Davy's "Quietly In The Background".
But  it has not been available in the 'live' version until now. When the original album track was recorded, there was no plan to put on a lead guitar part, but when we came to perform it in our shows, Paul went out and bought a new classical / acoustic guitar and added what many people have said is a Spanish feel to the song.
So we went into the studio again last week and overdubbed Paul's guitar and added further vocals from Davy.
It is now available to listen to - or to download for just 89p - on Overplay's website:

Hope you like it, let us know what you think". - Dave Drums DIABLO x

TOP DOG!

"The charity night at the Barking Dog on 22/11 raised £2,950.00 in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.

It was a tremendous night of entertainment with great sets from Creature, Lady Ann (was it really their first gig), Remedy and a barnstorming end to the night from Heavy Load.

It really was a joy to see four local bands provide so much pleasure to a sell out audience who in turn parted with their credit crunched cash to support this worthy cause.

Thanks also to Zodiac Ltd, Helifix Ltd, Freudenberg, LWC Drinks and McNulty Staff Charity Fund for supporting the event.

The PA for the evening was provided by Jason at Ahead Music.

Remedy support The Quireboys at The Carling Academy on 22/12/08 ditch the office party and get there you won't regret it.

Thanks again to all who helped". -Bill Bruce

"I've just started today at a venue (still being built, planned opening just before New Year) called The Trojan Rooms, it's a 250 capacity venue (In Whitley Bay) and all music genres and tastes will be accounted for, so all I'm asking is that if this sounds like something you'd be interested in hearing more about please reply to this email with your details for a new mailing list and please becoming a friend on our www.myspace.com/insan9el (just set up and very basic at the moment) so we're nice and active when we're ready with confirmation of bands and events.

That is about all for now, so get in touch if want updates and developments of this exciting new purpose built venue". -

"The Strobes had a great gig at the Clarendon in Sunderland on Sunday 9th November.
We just want to say what a cracking little pub with a great atmosphere. The Clarendon is one of the oldest pubs in Sunderland with the longest unbroken drinking licence, this pub goes back to 1753 and it still has that great old feel with a fantastic view.
Andy the new owner is bringing this pub back to life with live music and we know this will be a great success, we also need to mention the barman Geoff what a character he had us all amused with his put on Irish accent.
What a great gig we had and look forward to playing there again!"

The concert room requires a considerable amount of work now to guarantee everyone's safety and the safety of your equipment".

MOOSE LEAVES THE PROGS...
"After 5 years of fronting Prognosis I have decided that this year will be my last. It is with sadness that I leave the boys, but due to work and home commitments it has been increasingly difficult to fulfil rehearsal and gig commitments. I have enjoyed 5 wonderful years, played some great shows and venues and met some marvellous people. I would like to publicly thank Kev, Tim, Paul, John and Magic Marty for their understanding, muscianship excellence, lighting brilliance, and friendship. I hope Prognosis continue in some shape or form, and would love to see as many of our supporters and friends at my last few gigs, culminating in my final show with the band at The Office in November. All the best", - Moose

Happy Anniversary Nikhs!!!
"This coming Saturday Sept 6th, we celebrate what so many said we could never do, drive out the local 'knacker dans' and take what was a rough and tumble nightclub and turn it into what has so quickly become a very much respected top rock venue on the north east circuit.

We have had the support of the best bands around who regard Nikhs as one of the best sounding, best sized rock rooms around, and the support of the rock crowd just keeps growing and growing, so we are celebrating our 1st anniversary with a cracking 3 band line-up starting with The Renegades (Top Rage Against The Machine tribute) at 8pm followed by the one and only Freeway who are now back up and stronger than ever.  Finally Feed the Bear will blow the roof off with rock bedlam! We pride ourselves on having the biggest selection (and best in-house sounding) of rock tracks played by our resident top rock dj before and after the bands till the very wee hours of Sunday!!

Free pizza will be supplied all nite from a renowned local t/away, along with sandwiches, nibbles etc....
Free upstairs pool table all nite.
Brand new happy hour game upstairs launches on the anniversary nite from 7.30-9.30
Free sumptuous chocolate shot on arrival for folk who pre-purchase tickets

Lots of fun and surprises guaranteed throughout the nite, we want everyone to come along and celebrate with us, all this for just £2.50 on the door or with advance tickets or further details on our web site

You Got Jimi's Guitar?
"Local Hendrix band Sundance were interviewed on the Lisa McCormack afternoon show on BBC Radio Tees on the 27th August.
You can hear the interview, extracts of their music, watch video and find out more about the band by going to
www.sundancepage.co.uk Sundances upcoming gig at the Imperial Hotel in Darlington is attracting the attention of the media. The band are offering a guitar amnesty to whoever has the guitar that was stolen from Jimi Hendrix at his show at the venue on 2nd February 1967. The guitar is still believed to be in the town though local stories say it has changed hands at least twice and has also been repainted. Sundance are playing the same venue on September 21st which marks the 40th anniversary of the release of All Along the Watchtower. The band would love the opportunity to use the guitar live on stage and have agreed to keep the identity of the owner secret should it turn up. All four members of Sundance were interviewed live on BBC Radio Tees and Sundance were on the air for over half an hour talking about Jimi Hendrix , the guitar amnesty and also playing some classic Hendrix riffs on acoustic guitar".

BARKING SUCCESS
"The charity night held at The Barking Dog, Wallsend on 24/8/08 proved to be a tremendous success. Despite the unavailability for various reasons, of two of the booked acts it turned out to be a highly entertaining night which raised over £3500 for MS research.

Sticky Fingers were well Sticky Fingers hugely talented musicians who thoroughly enjoy what they do and make sure they audience do to. We can't thank them enough. Creature next, so much talent for ones so young they played a great set and entertained for an hour and a half. They really do deserve more bookings and anyone who does won't be disappointed I'm sure.

Finally Sundance and what can I say, these lads are tremendous kept waiting they never moaned and then proceeded to pay tribute to Hendrix like I've never seen before. Anyone with a liking for Hendrix really needs to see this band and those not so keen should give them a try. They might just change your mind.

Thanks to Q music for the PA Newcastle Drum Centre For the Drum Kit and Special thanks to Bod of North East Ventilation For sponsoring the event. The next charity event at the Dog will be in Aid of THE NORTHUMBERLAND AIR AMBULANCE. It will be held on 22/11/08 any Bands interested in donating their talents can contact me Bill Bruce william.bruce6@btoenworld.com or 07753573613". Thanks, Bill

The Sun Goes Down...
Top Thin Lizzy tribute band BLACK ROSE have called it a day. The official statement from Ben Young reads
"
It is with great sadness that I must announce that Black Rose have decided to call it a day.
In May of this year I announced to the band that I would be leaving in December as my work and family commitments were becoming more and more demanding.  Due to time constraints, It has proven very difficult for the band to get together to discuss how we would proceed towards the end of the year and as such, we have decided to bring the date forward and as of this weekend Black Rose have disbanded.
All parties still remain good friends and there has been no "falling out" what so ever.  On behalf of the band, I'd firstly like to apologise for any gigs which have had to be cancelled but most importantly, I
d like to offer my sincerest thanks and appreciation to everyone who has supported Black Rose over the last 11 years from the venues to the fans and everybody else that has been involved with the band. So what now?
Well,
Geordie, Col and Hirdy are still playing with Damage Control along with Alan (from local band Riot) and Mike (from local band Uncle Gilbert).
If you haven't seen them yet then be sure to get to a gig soon! As for me, I'm gonna quietly head off into the sunset and enjoy my early retirement from the local music scene, pour some red wine, smoke me pipe and put some Frank Dunnery on me iPod"
- Ben

Surely, going to be a big miss and a huge loss to the north east music scene.

Still Rockin'...

"Just to clear up a few misunderstandings / rumours - the Magnesia Bank in North Shields is open for business. Busker's nights are still on every Monday and you can still expect top quality live music every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with the occasional Sunday gig too".

The new management has the existing gig diary so there's no need to panic if you're booked and are worried what might happen. For more details and to check the upcoming gig dates, check the website at www.magnesiabank.com/music

Tubesnake Give Their Support to The Beamish Mary

"The Beamish Mary Inn in No Place, Stanley, historically, is known for great food and real-ale (won many awards) and, at one time, for being a GREAT MUSIC venue with bands playing there twice a week.  Music has not been a real feature at The Beamish for quite a while now, with just a handful of gigs over the last few years, typically organised by the bands themselves (us included). However, the venue now hopes to re-introduce regular gigs each Thursday and Saturday night, the way it used to be for over 10 years. This may take a little while to establish but we've offered our support to this favourite venue of ours that has hosted Tubesnake from its' first line up back in 1992 through to our last gig there in December 2007.

Bands wishing to play there should contact Sally (07821 678919). She's looking for THURSDAYS and SATURDAYS only ...  starting from Saturday 2nd August 2008 up to the end of the year. Because this is just getting off the ground - the pub will pay £50 to add to whatever you take on the door (we're putting £2 on the door), this of course should improve if bands start playing there regularly. We've already committed to a few gigs for 2008 opening up with a special Sunday afternoon gig there on 27th July at 4pm".

Cheers. Lenny (Tubesnake).

EMERALD THIEVES review by Paul & Bernie here>>>

"At a time when many music venues seem to be closing down it would seem worthwhile giving a mention to a new venue. The JOLLY MILLER in Low Fell has started a Saturday night band night. They have already had 2 great bands - Knee Jerk Reaction and the Acoustic Beatles on. We (RELOAD) are playing there this Saturday (17th) and it looks like a great place to play, with owners who are making a real effort. So if you would like to try out a new venue why not pop along on Saturday. They have a great line -up for the rest of the year and hopefully this will help it become an established venue" - Neil ( RELOAD)

All Change at 'THE DUKE'
The Duke of Cumberland, Felling is under new management and therefore a new policy for booking bands.
Mick Conroy says "
"The Duke of Cumberland, Felling has recently been taken over by local lad Steve. He was left no info by previous manager Ian as to who/what bands were booked so wishes to let all the bands know that anything booked by Ian (or Terry Gorman) is cancelled. Steve has asked me to help him out with booking the bands in future and I will be endeavouring to start regular Friday rock nights with well established bands from May onwards. The long term plan is to return the Duke back to two rooms i.e. music lounge/bar.
Obviously these things don't happen overnight but hopefully with luck we can restore the Duke to it's former glory. Any bands wanting further info can email me on
info@powerage1.com but please be aware that recent policy of simply booking any band for any night is now history and I am looking to use well established/popular bands as much as possible in future.
The only surviving gig is that of Robot Elvis this Saturday 29th March which with the reputation of Baz Warne and cohorts Jos and Baz should hopefully be a really good one".
All the best, Mick Conroy

APCC Rockfest ll was a sellout success
"...last weekend with all punters very drunk but not disorderly. From the opening sweary bits by Wayne from Special Needz... a great up and coming band who I'd recommend anyone to book.. through 4 Kinnels classy 'broon-ale' fueled rockset to the Mod-rock of Diablo of whose set I must say their own composition (can't think of the name) was absolute class... and thanks to Dave Drummer for getting drunk with me for a while longer later on! Bring on the talented Uncle Gilbert for more classic rock tunes and top it off with the showman Tommy and his Oddballs and the packed house was rocking from 2 till late. For a tenner what a day. Even the rat that the Centurians bike club brought in to help out with the pies enjoyed himself....

Thanks to all who took part in what looks like being a February fixture for a while to come... special thanks to Andy and his mate who did a brill job on the sound mix and band changeovers". - Steve

MACMILLAN CHARITY RAISING SUCCESS!
"We would like to thank everyone who supported this event which was held in memory of Christine, one of the bands loyal supporters.
All the prizes kindly donated by local business's and pubs were raffled off, and a pop quiz was held also which helped to make this a cracking night. The final tally for the evening was over £2,700.

A very special  thanks to the girls at the Whickham branch of The Halifax who played an absolute blinder on the night, especially Margaret and Paula for all their hard work, and also to The Halifax for their generous donation. The Clavering Club provided the room, including a donation to the fund.

The crowd on the night rose to the occasion, and I think it is fair to say we had a really decent evening. Once again from everyone who participated to make this a special occasion, many, many thanks".

SPARTAN CELEBRATE 1 YEAR!
"The band will be holding a Birthday Bash at their gig at the Market Tavern in Bedlington on March 15th to celebrate their First Year together. We have had a great year, playing some fantastic places and meeting some very special people who have become friends of the band. So as a small gesture the lads would like to invite you to attend their First Birthday, just bring yourselves and we will provide the party hats and entertainment. It's hard to believe that a year has passed since we started all of this, we have gained so much in such a short space of time and can only Thank You for all the help and support. One of the Highlights of the year was being asked to play at the last ever Stanley fun day and also at the Stanley Rock Night which all raised some much needed funds for Cancer Research. So pick up your best air guitar and get yourself along to the Market Tavern on March 15Th for what we hope to be a very special night for everyone".

Hope to see you there - Kev, Gazza, Mick & Phil (Spartan)

TOKYO ROSE CD

Tokyo Rose were formed way back in 1980 and were one of the many North East bands which exploded on to the NWOBHM scene in the early 1980's. The bands first single 'Dry Your Eyes' is apparently selling on certain websites for £120.

You can hear that single on the bands re-mastered 'Tokyo Rose' CD, where you can listen to 15 tracks which cover a wide range of music styles with a very 80's feel. Another track on the cd is a song called 'My Place' and you can hear that here>>>

'BIG' AL WILLIAMS hangs up bass for final time!
The big fella plays his last two gigs with BLACK ROSE this weekend.

Alan has played with many bands over G only knows how many years and he's always given 100%  and more in to every venture he's been associated with!
Always played a smile on his face, and even managed to play the 'big one, Newcastle City Hall!
He'll certainly be missed around the music scene...

...until the come back!!!?

The Beauty of the Beast
Caught north east band JUDAS BEAST, yes a tribute to Judas Priest, twice already this year, and it's certain that we'll be seeing them again! The lads really get in to their parts, dressed up in wigs, black, leather, chains etc and the front man really looks the part of Halford.

The overall sound in The Office sound really good, and there was a very good echo on the singers voice which added so much to the gig. If I really had to a bit picky, I think the singer holds back a wee bit and should really just go for those screeeeeeaaams that is part of the Priest/Halford sound!

Anyways...take a look at them in action here>>>

New Paul Rodgers/Free tribute
What we do: A musical tribute to the work of Paul Rodgers. From Free and Bad Company then his own covers projects like the Jimi Hendrix album, Muddy Waters Blues and solo material and finally with his latest involvement in Queen we thought it was too good to leave out. It isnt going to follow any chronological pattern so its a mixed bag including most of the favourites of Paul Rodgers fans all done with passion and tasteful respect....more>>>

NEW VENUE
"Beginning on 4th January 2008, a weekly rock gig will be hosted at Buffalos, in the Buffs Social Club, Frederick Place, Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear DH4 4BN.

Every Friday, we are presenting the top quality rock music, including the best of the tribute bands from the North East & the rest of the UK, along with touring original artists.

It will be run at all times like a gig, not a social club, so there'll be no meat draw or bingo at half time.

It is promoted independently of the club, and there will be a modest entry fee, although of course everybody will benefit from very appealing bar prices. Room capacity is 250 - 300. Good stage. Bar till midnight, bands till 11pm, rock dj for the last hour.

Cheers, Alan

Well, It's Christmas Eve and there's not many gigs to go out and see in the next 48 hours, so if you still want your 'fix' of listening to some of the best north east bands out there, why not take a look here and listen to some hour long shows from...
The MUDSHARKS, SABBATICA, STICKY FINGERS, WHITE NOISE, The POORBOYS, BLACK ROSE

HEWIES FAREWELL
"As from the end of December 2007 I will no longer be fronting the legendary Maiden England. I have had the best 8 years of my life. All the members of Maiden England past and present have been like family members to me. Of course I've had my ups and downs within Maiden England but certainly more ups than downs. I have been to places that I would never have been if it hadn't have been for Maiden England. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their support over the years, I have been totally overwhelmed by the response that Maiden England have received in the public eye, it has been far beyond anything I ever imagined it would ever be. I can assure you that Maiden England will carry on and as I speak are on the look out for a new singer (up for it anyone????). A massive thanks to everybody at Riffs, Davy and Kym and all the local support I've received over the years. I have made a lot of friends in the local music scene and I would also like to thank them. The biggest thanks of all MUST go to Maiden England for putting up with little old me for the past eight years.... Thanks lads, it's been a blast". Hewie (Maiden England).

VOCALIST WANTED FOR MAIDEN ENGLAND
Hewie is leaving the band after eight fantastic years as Maiden England vocalist. Due to work commitments Hewie is no longer able to front the band any more. Maiden England would like to wish him every success in his new career and thank him for his long term dedication and friendship to us all. Many happy times have been had by all. The band have decided to look for another singer with Maiden in their blood. If this sounds like you and you've got what it takes then please contact Mark on 01434 605760.

The Star House Rocked!!!
Local lad BAZ WARNE has been doing a few local gigs recently under the name ROBOT ELVIS.
I caught them last night at The Star Inn, Newcastle where albeit a small crowd, the band didn't disappoint those who turned out to see a rare appearance by The Stranglers guitarist. They've a few more gigs over the next week or two, so try and catch them if you can. more>>>
