MOOSE LEAVES THE PROGS...
"
After 5 years of fronting Prognosis I have decided that this year will be my last. It is with sadness that I leave the boys, but due to work and home commitments it has been increasingly difficult to fulfil rehearsal and gig commitments. I have enjoyed 5 wonderful years, played some great shows and venues and met some marvellous people. I would like to publicly thank Kev, Tim, Paul, John and Magic Marty for their understanding, muscianship excellence, lighting brilliance, and friendship. I hope Prognosis continue in some shape or form, and would love to see as many of our supporters and friends at my last few gigs, culminating in my final show with the band at The Office in November. All the best", - Moose

Another Odd gig for Dave...
Dave Guthrie
, drummer with Tommy & The Oddballs has recently started in a side-project called The Graduates. "...(We have) just starting gigging, done a couple already, female fronted vocalist, bass player from 70s band "Goldie" (remember them) guitar and drums, completely different from the oddballs, a bit more laid back, which is a nice change for me anyway".  and the next gig is at The Falcon, Prudhoe, on Sun 21st Sep" - .Dave (Oddball)

Happy Anniversary Nikhs!!!
"This coming Saturday Sept 6th, we celebrate what so many said we could never do, drive out the local 'knacker dans' and take what was a rough and tumble nightclub and turn it into what has so quickly become a very much respected top rock venue on the north east circuit.

We have had the support of the best bands around who regard Nikhs as one of the best sounding, best sized rock rooms around, and the support of the rock crowd just keeps growing and growing, so we are celebrating our 1st anniversary with a cracking 3 band line-up starting with The Renegades (Top Rage Against The Machine tribute) at 8pm followed by the one and only Freeway who are now back up and stronger than ever.  Finally Feed the Bear will blow the roof off with rock bedlam! We pride ourselves on having the biggest selection (and best in-house sounding) of rock tracks played by our resident top rock dj before and after the bands till the very wee hours of Sunday!!

Free pizza will be supplied all nite from a renowned local t/away, along with sandwiches, nibbles etc....
Free upstairs pool table all nite.
Brand new happy hour game upstairs launches on the anniversary nite from 7.30-9.30
Free sumptuous chocolate shot on arrival for folk who pre-purchase tickets

Lots of fun and surprises guaranteed throughout the nite, we want everyone to come along and celebrate with us, all this for just £2.50 on the door or with advance tickets or further details on our web site
  www.nikhs.co.uk

thanks so much, Rob

You Got Jimi's Guitar?
"Local Hendrix band Sundance were interviewed on the Lisa McCormack afternoon show on BBC Radio Tees on the 27th August.
You can hear the interview, extracts of their music, watch video and find out more about the band by going to
www.sundancepage.co.uk Sundance’s upcoming gig at the Imperial Hotel in Darlington is attracting the attention of the media. The band are offering a “guitar amnesty” to whoever has the guitar that was stolen from Jimi Hendrix at his show at the venue on 2nd February 1967. The guitar is still believed to be in the town though local stories say it has changed hands at least twice and has also been repainted. Sundance are playing the same venue on September 21st which marks the 40th anniversary of the release of All Along the Watchtower. The band would love the opportunity to use the guitar live on stage and have agreed to keep the identity of the owner secret should it turn up. All four members of Sundance were interviewed live on BBC Radio Tees and Sundance were on the air for over half an hour talking about Jimi Hendrix , the guitar amnesty and also playing some classic Hendrix riffs on acoustic guitar".

BARKING SUCCESS
"The charity night held at The Barking Dog, Wallsend on 24/8/08 proved to be a tremendous success. Despite the unavailability for various reasons, of two of the booked acts it turned out to be a highly entertaining night which raised over £3500 for MS research.

Sticky Fingers were well Sticky Fingers hugely talented musicians who thoroughly enjoy what they do and make sure they audience do to. We can't thank them enough. Creature next, so much talent for ones so young they played a great set and entertained for an hour and a half. They really do deserve more bookings and anyone who does won't be disappointed I'm sure.
Finally Sundance and what can I say, these lads are tremendous kept waiting they never moaned and then proceeded to pay tribute to Hendrix like I've never seen before. Anyone with a liking for Hendrix really needs to see this band and those not so keen should give them a try. They might just change your mind.
Thanks to Q music for the PA Newcastle Drum Centre For the Drum Kit and Special thanks to Bod of North East Ventilation For sponsoring the event. The next charity event at the Dog will be in Aid of THE NORTHUMBERLAND AIR AMBULANCE. It will be held on 22/11/08 any Bands interested in donating their talents can contact me Bill Bruce william.bruce6@btoenworld.com or 07753573613". Thanks, Bill

The Sun Goes Down...
Top Thin Lizzy tribute band BLACK ROSE have called it a day. The official statement from Ben Young reads
"
It is with great sadness that I must announce that Black Rose have decided to call it a day.
In May of this year I announced to the band that I would be leaving in December as my work and family commitments were becoming more and more demanding.  Due to time constraints, It has proven very difficult for the band to get together to discuss how we would proceed towards the end of the year and as such, we have decided to bring the date forward and as of this weekend Black Rose have disbanded.
All parties still remain good friends and there has been no "falling out" what so ever.  On behalf of the band, I'd firstly like to apologise for any gigs which have had to be cancelled but most importantly, I’d like to offer my sincerest thanks and appreciation to everyone who has supported Black Rose over the last 11 years from the venues to the fans and everybody else that has been involved with the band. So what now?
Well,
Geordie, Col and Hirdy are still playing with Damage Control along with Alan (from local band Riot) and Mike (from local band Uncle Gilbert).
If you haven't seen them yet then be sure to get to a gig soon! As for me, I'm gonna quietly head off into the sunset and enjoy my early retirement from the local music scene, pour some red wine, smoke me pipe and put some Frank Dunnery on me iPod"
- Ben

Surely, going to be a big miss and a huge loss to the north east music scene.
If you'd like to hear the band one last time go here>>>

The Bandits will be recording their gig at The Three Tuns, Gateshead on the 29th August, for the possibility of a live CD release. The lads would love a good turnout to help capture the unique atmosphere of a Bandits gig!

"The Jimmy Savage Band (sometimes known as Tongue & Groove) will be playing at the Magnesia Bank, North Shields TOMORROW night, Wednesday 13th August. This replaces the gig they lost recently when the pub was closed due to the change in management. The band features many well-known local musicians including Mark 'Busk' Conlin and if their last appearance at the Maggie is anything to go by, it should be a great night." - Dennis

SLACK RATS take a break...
*August 14th, 3 Tuns Gateshead opening for The Creepers.*

"We no longer have any transport and all the gigs have dried up. After the abysmal turnout at Peterlee festival, its time to go back to the well and have a re-think on what kinda band we are.
The initial reaction to our own material was promising but as time went on, so did we and we continued to get nowhere with it.  it always seemed to be our choice of covers that people remembered and requested. Don't know if that's a reflection on my writing skills or our skill at picking covers....

After this show, we'll be back when we're back. whether that's as a covers band or what, remains to be seen.
It also depends on us finding someone to drive us around. People keep telling me to put myself thru my test and buy a car or van yeah its just that easy and so cheap to do innit?
Anyways, come catch us for an hour and stay for the Creepers as they rule!
-Scott Ellison/Scotti Slack Rat

Tubesnake Give Their Support to The Beamish Mary

"The Beamish Mary Inn in No Place, Stanley, historically, is known for great food and real-ale (won many awards) and, at one time, for being a GREAT MUSIC venue with bands playing there twice a week.  Music has not been a real feature at The Beamish for quite a while now, with just a handful of gigs over the last few years, typically organised by the bands themselves (us included). However, the venue now hopes to re-introduce regular gigs each Thursday and Saturday night, the way it used to be for over 10 years. This may take a little while to establish but we've offered our support to this favourite venue of ours that has hosted Tubesnake from its' first line up back in 1992 through to our last gig there in December 2007.

Bands wishing to play there should contact Sally (07821 678919). She's looking for THURSDAYS and SATURDAYS only ...  starting from Saturday 2nd August 2008 up to the end of the year. Because this is just getting off the ground - the pub will pay £50 to add to whatever you take on the door (we're putting £2 on the door), this of course should improve if bands start playing there regularly. We've already committed to a few gigs for 2008 opening up with a special Sunday afternoon gig there on 27th July at 4pm".
Cheers. Lenny (Tubesnake).

EMERALD THIEVES review by Paul & Bernie here>>>

"At a time when many music venues seem to be closing down it would seem worthwhile giving a mention to a new venue. The JOLLY MILLER in Low Fell has started a Saturday night band night. They have already had 2 great bands - Knee Jerk Reaction and the Acoustic Beatles on. We (RELOAD) are playing there this Saturday (17th) and it looks like a great place to play, with owners who are making a real effort. So if you would like to try out a new venue why not pop along on Saturday. They have a great line -up for the rest of the year and hopefully this will help it become an established venue" - Neil ( RELOAD)

Decca, Den, Claire, Pete and Keith would like to thank everyone who came down in that time and would like to remind people that there are still plenty of good open mic / buskers nights out there, including the Magnesia Bank (every Monday), the Avalon ('Raw Music Night' every Tuesday), the Porthole (N.Shields - every Tuesday) and at the King's Arms at Seaton Sluice (every Wednesday)." - Den

The Cradle Will Rock...
"It is only 2 weeks away now and we want to make sure that there are as many people aware of the day as possible. It is in aid of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and we have a great line up including Tygers of Pan Tang (who are flying their singer over from Italy at no cost to play for us), Captain Rock, Sabbatica, The Bandits, Gary Grainger, Skeik Ya Mojo, Toxic Pixies and The Unnamed with Heavy as Hell Rockshow providing the sounds and lights between bands. Magic Marty will be providing stage lighting for the day.
Tickets are available still but going fairly fast. You are welcome to come yourself too".

Stevie Wright (Captain Rock)

NEWTON PARK Latest...
Good news (for the time being!). The manager of The Newton Park has NOT cancelled any bands at this moment in time. What has happened is that the area manager didn't like the fall in sales of meals, with diners complaining about the noise from bands. Last night saw DIABLO play in the function room, at the opposite end of the building, where a large crowd braved the horrible, wet weather to support the band . The manager was very pleased with the turnout (and bar takings!), and he is going to put it to the area rep to see if he can continue having live music this way, and if the good turnouts like last night continue!
Support it or lose it!

All Change at 'THE DUKE'
The Duke of Cumberland, Felling is under new management and therefore a new policy for booking bands.
Mick Conroy says "
"The Duke of Cumberland, Felling has recently been taken over by local lad Steve. He was left no info by previous manager Ian as to who/what bands were booked so wishes to let all the bands know that anything booked by Ian (or Terry Gorman) is cancelled. Steve has asked me to help him out with booking the bands in future and I will be endeavouring to start regular Friday rock nights with well established bands from May onwards. The long term plan is to return the Duke back to two rooms i.e. music lounge/bar.
Obviously these things don't happen overnight but hopefully with luck we can restore the Duke to it's former glory. Any bands wanting further info can email me on
info@powerage1.com but please be aware that recent policy of simply booking any band for any night is now history and I am looking to use well established/popular bands as much as possible in future.
The only surviving gig is that of Robot Elvis this Saturday 29th March which with the reputation of Baz Warne and cohorts Jos and Baz should hopefully be a really good one".
All the best, Mick Conroy

Important Notice from the George Stephenson Inn, West Moor.
As you may have heard, following the recent changes in management at the George Stephenson Inn, all gig bookings have indeed now been cancelled and the entire diary is being rebuilt from scratch. Please note: the recent change in pay structure has also now been adjusted.

Most of the dates have been filled for March, however all gigs after that should be made through Decca on 07787733696.

...and Keith Fisher adds...
"I have had, on several occasions, found it urgently necessary to contact one band or another – usually in respect of closed venues, lost diaries, changes of management, etc, etc.  It is quite unbelievable how many bands prefer not to post their telephone number on their website; why?!!
In this particular instance, Jan – who has taken control of The George Stephenson – has not been given any details of bands or dates by the departing Richard and I am trying to compile a list of names and numbers for her to begin re-booking the rest of the year.  Take note guys and girls:
Please email the band at… doesn’t work when you are due to play that night and the pub’s just burned down.  What are you afraid of?  Get your numbers on site or stay out of the loop.
All bookings made by Richard Costello for The Magnesia Bank remain as is; but, as I said: everything at The George Stephenson must be re-done.You have been warned". -Keith Fisher.

Can any bands who are booked to play The Innisfree Social Club at Longbenton to ring Alan on 077259 11349
He's just took over the band bookings and needs to know who's playing.

"Apologies to anyone who came to the Magnesia Bank's Busker's Night last Monday to find the pub unexpectedly closed. This was a one-off due to a slight change in management. Everything will be up and running again this Monday (25th Feb) with the usual mix of good music, friendly atmosphere and free food. As ever, all musicians are welcome, whatever your style, age, ability or experience".

"The band / auction night at The Other Rooms in Newcastle in aid of Simon Weston's charity Weston Spirit raised a cracking £1,750.
The organisers were hoping for £1,000, so everybody involved was well chuffed.

APCC Rockfest ll was a sellout success
"...last weekend with all punters very drunk but not disorderly. From the opening sweary bits by Wayne from Special Needz... a great up and coming band who I'd recommend anyone to book.. through 4 Kinnels classy 'broon-ale' fueled rockset to the Mod-rock of Diablo of whose set I must say their own composition (can't think of the name) was absolute class... and thanks to Dave Drummer for getting drunk with me for a while longer later on! Bring on the talented Uncle Gilbert for more classic rock tunes and top it off with the showman Tommy and his Oddballs and the packed house was rocking from 2 till late. For a tenner what a day. Even the rat that the Centurians bike club brought in to help out with the pies enjoyed himself....
Thanks to all who took part in what looks like being a February fixture for a while to come... special thanks to Andy and his mate who did a brill job on the sound mix and band changeovers". - Steve
